15-4-08 - The 2008 Season has now arrived

I started my 2008 season with a 12.5km run in the snow last weekend and then I was off to Clacton over the weekend of 12th & 13th April for the 1st leg of the JP slalom series. It all went very well and started my year off on a high.

Click here to see the results and weekend report.

I am at the ’GAP’ this coming weekend for Worthing Watersports spring Demo Day. The forecast is not very good   but who says they will be right. Those also attending will be Surf Sales, and Dave White.

Text Box: 30-7-08 - What a busy few months

Following on from my good start to the 2008 Slalom series at Clacton, I have had a very busy few months training, attending events, demo days etc.

I unfortunately missed what turned out to be two crucial events. The first being the Minster leg of the series and then a fortnight later the Aberdovey leg. The financial pressures of attending three events in six week plus equipment replacement etc created a cash flow crisis and in turn a tough decision as to which events to attend.

The fleet completed racing at both these events, which piled the pressure on for me to gain a good result at the Hove event at the beginning of July.

As the Hove event approached, the forecast looked promising, with light but sailable South South westerly’s on the Saturday and Stronger Southerly’s on the Sunday. Despite problems on the Saturday I had a very good event and finished as 1st master in the Challenge Fleet, keeping my series very much alive. Click Here to see my event report. It now means that I will be moving up and competing in the topflight next season.

One week earlier on the 28th June Guy Cribb did his endurance event sailing from Bournemouth to Brighton. I decided to join him for the last two legs from Ferring to Shoreham and then on to the Palace Pier in Brighton. Thanks firstly to John (The Pirate McIntyre) for sailing the distance with me and secondly to Karen Jake, Jay and Pete for being our support team (trying to keep up with us!!!). I really enjoyed the challenge of this kind of sailing and I am planning on taking part and possibly completing the hole distance next year.

On the 20th July I helped Mike & Sue with there Kayak & SUP demo day at Goring Gap. We were blessed with a glorious sunny warm day. Lots of people came to try both the Kayaks and SUP’s that were available on the beach. Click Here to see Photos of the Demo Day

21-8-08 - Vinnie is backed by Exocet

I have been talking to Surf Sales and Jamie Hawkins for a while about the possibility of riding for Exocet. I have now received my new boards and I am over the moon with them. I now have a warp 80 and 67 a cross 106 and a x-wave 83. I have had the opportunity during this very windy month to try all 4 and I feel they will give me the edge that I have been looking for.

I would like to thank Jamie, Mike (Worthing Watersports) and Krafty (Surf sales) for helping to get this fantastic backing.

Look out for my results from the next events at Poole next month!!

31-1-08 A new year has started

What a year 2007 turned out to be. I finished my first Slalom series ranked 4th overall and 3rd master in my fleet.

I saw the year out on a massive high when I got married to Karen on new years. We had the ceremony at our local church (United Reform Church) in Littlehampton followed by a family meal at Misty’s restaurant and then we saw the new year in at our house. Click here for pictures

We have just returned from our honeymoon in Canada where we both learnt to ski. We both did very well and by the end of the break we were both doing blue runs and contemplating blacks. Thanks have to go to Sue & Keith who by chance were too on holiday at Lake Louise and took us under their wings and gave us one to one tuition. Click here for pictures

Now we are back it is time to concentrate and the 2008 season that is just round the corner. The UKWA have now issued the 2008 events and I have now posted them on the Events page. All my results will be posted on this page when I have completed the events.

My sponsors for 2008 are the same as last year, with the addition of the support of Surf Sales who have been very supportive during the break from racing.

I am hoping that this year will be even better than last year and I hope to continue break my personal bests and improve my ranking.

Watch out for new news here during the coming year.

5-01-09 - Happy New Year

The new year has arrived, but bringing with it a very dominant high pressure and very cold temperatures. With there being no possibility of any sailable wind I have been busy running to keep up my general level of fitness. I am now up to 10 miles in a around 1 hour 30 mins. Looking ahead I am hoping to run a half marathon before the summer.

The 2009 events have now been posted and the national circuit starts in May. I am planning on competing in the Hayling winter series in February and March aswell. This is a 5 series event over 5 consecutive weekends.

With our baby due to arrive on the 10th March Karen is insisting I sail with a phone!!!

31-10-08 - 2nd Place Master

The end of the season has arrived with a very disappointing weekend at Poole. The weather was very warm and sunny but no wind.

As normal with Animal Windfest there was loads going on with demonstrations of BMX and skateboard stunts on the ramps and wakeboard  displays on a make shift pool. The public were rewarded with loads of T shirts, water bottles etc being given away.

Despite there being no competitive sailing over the weekend I still finished the season as 2nd master in the Challenge Fleet. I am now on the move into the Top Flight  next season.

5-2-09 First Competition of the Season

On Sunday 1st February 2009 I started the 2009 season at the Hayling Winter Series. Despite the snow and the very cold temperatures the day went well and I finished in 2nd position behind Dan Simpson.

I am back to Hayling this coming Sunday for the 2nd event of the series. The forecast is not looking to promising at the moment.

11-2-09 2nd Heat of the Hayling Island Series

On Sunday 8th February 2009 we continued the Hayling Island Winter series.

Despite our optimism there was no wind and the event was abandoned at 1430.

22-2-09 3rd & 4th Heats of the Hayling Island Series

We continued with the 3rd and 4th Heats of the series but with very little wind.

On the 15th I tried to pump my way around the course but with an ongoing shoulder injury, found it to painful to continue. After the 2nd race  I withdrew from the event and watched the rest of the heats from the club House.

Sunday the 22nd dawned and Chimet was reading 20 Knots NW at 0700. By the time I got to Hayling the wind was down to 10 Knots and still decreasing. I stayed for coffee and then left as the keen long boarders rigged ready for another 5 heats of pumping around the course.

In the morning (23rd February) I am off into hospital for surgery on my shoulder. I am hoping that it will only keep me off the water for 4-6 weeks and I can then start training for the national series starting in the middle of May.

Karen is due to have the our baby in the next 2 weeks - watch this space for news on the new arrival!!!!

15-3-09 The Arrival of Emily-Rose

On Friday the 13th March Karen gave birth to Emily-Rose.   Weighing in at 8  pounds 15 ounces Emily-Rose was born in the birthing pool at Worthing Hospital.

We are hoping the introduction to

water at such an early age will

mean that she will grow

up to love water as much as Vinnie.

Both Karen and Emily-Rose are

home and doing very well.

2-4-09 Neil Pryde

I am proud to announce

that I have now secured sponsorship from Pryde Group UK.

I am now going to be riding on Alpha’s for my wave sailing and RS Slalom’s for racing. With my shoulder now recovering nicely I hope to be out testing the new equipment by the Easter weekend.

Along with the sails I will also be promoting Neil Pryde wetsuits, harnesses, booms, lines etc. I am excited at this new opportunity and would like to thank all involved and Pryde Group UK.
